Charcoal stove

We ran out of LPG last week and I didn’t bother to call for delivery for we have a charcoal stove already. It’s the improvised stove with blower which makes cooking easy and quick as that with cooking using a gas stove. We bought it from my cousin’s husband last January. Since then, I seldom use it except for stewing beef and pork bones. My youngest sister was assigned to cook for dinner that day and I told her to use the charcoal stove. After putting enough amount of charcoal, she plugged in the blower. After almost 10 minutes, she kept on telling me still there’s no fire and the charcoal isn’t burned yet and insisted that I’d check it. I suppose she knows what she’s doing and so I left it to her telling her to check the blower if it is working. She said yes and so, I was confident she did the right thing. After a couple of minutes, she came back telling me that the charcoal isn’t burning yet. What? She’s supposed to be cooking this time. Curious enough, I checked on the stove….yes, the blower is working, there’s enough charcoal….BUT she didn’t lit it ( she didn’t made fire) to let the charcoal burn easily with the help of the blower. Gosh! I couldn’t believe it. I was shocked. She doesn’t know how to use the stove? It’s the same way as cooking in an ordinary charcoal stove. The only difference is the blower. So, there’s no way that the blower will eventually make fire and burn the charcoal. And her excuse for that incident, “d mo man sinabi na sindihan ko ang uling. Sabi mo lang i-plug ko ang blower” (You didn’t tell me to make some fire. What you told me is to plug the blower). Oh, I forgot….I’m talking to my youngest sister who does things as she was instructed…..without even thinking. I just hope she’ll learn to do things without asking from us, using her own intiative. Grrrr….that’s what I really don’t like, keep on repeating things or instructions and being asked the same things over and over. In fairness, she is very diligent in doing her  dishwashing task.

I’ve never heard of a charcoal stove… Is it kind of like a BBQ?

hi! yep, in a country like ours, we use other resources in cooking and one of it is the charcoal. In your place, I bet charcoal is only used for grilling. yep, it’s like bbq but the difference is there’s a pot made of clay designed for it. But since cooking with it takes a lot of time, there’s an improvised one….made of molded cement with an electric blower. :-) Will take a pix of the charcoal stove someday *wink*
